Over 170 Skyhawks graduated from Fort Lewis College on the cold sunny morning of December 16, 2017. The students enjoyed a Commencement Address from Eric Huggins, professor of Management and winner of the Alice Admire Teaching Excellence Award.

Local students placed second in First Nations Launch competition
FLC students travelled to Carthage College in Wisconsin to participate in the American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) division of the First Nations Launch competition. Team Skyhawks tied for second place (out of nine AISES teams) in the oral presentations and performed extremely well in the pre-launch timed event. This competition, sponsored by NASA's Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC), is an opportunity for students attending a Tribal College or University, or who are members of a campus AISES chapter, to design, build, and fly a rocket to be launched at the Richard Bong State Recreational Area in Kansasville, WI.

Local students attended AISES Conference
Twelve FLC students, along with four FLC faculty members and staff, attended the AISES (American Indian Science & Engineering Society) National Conference in Denver, Colorado, on September 20-24, 2017. The students' trip to the conference was funded by the Otten Family fund, National Institute of Health, Native American Summer Research Internship at University of Utah and some self-funded trips.

Founded in 1991, the Fort Lewis College Environmental Center (EC) is a campus organization committed to working for environmental sustainability and social justice both at Fort Lewis College and in the Durango community. Local students attended SACNAS National Convention
Faculty from Chemistry, Biology, and the MARC U*STAR program attended the SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science) National Convention in Long Beach, Calif. with 30 Fort Lewis College students studying the STEM disciplines. The students' trip to the conference was funded by NIH program SSNAP (Science Scholars: The Native American Path).
